The 2019 Coronavirus (“SARS-CoV-2”), also known as COVID-19, is a novel virus, which means that this strain of the virus has never been seen previously. At this time, there is no FDA-approved vaccine for this virus. Below you will find some useful information and links to important public health information pertaining to COVID-19. This page will be updated as more information becomes available from public health officials and institutions.
The best way to prevent yourself from getting COVID-19 is to avoid being in contact with the virus. Staying home is the best prevention option right now. The virus is thought to spread from person-to-person in two ways, people who are in close proximity to each other (within 6 feet) and through respiratory droplets that are released into the environment when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Visit the CDC Prevention Webpage for more information.
Below you will find some of the symptoms of COVID-19. The CDC believes that these symptoms will appear in 2-14 days from the time of exposure to the virus. If you are displaying any of these symptoms, you should stay home and call your healthcare provider. You may also contact the NYS Department of Health COVID-19 Hotline at 1-888-364-3065.
